In 2024, approx. 52M units of DC motors were imported in Africa; jumping by 26% on 2023. Overall, imports posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 55%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2024 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, DC motor imports expanded notably to $397M in 2024. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Morocco (+40 p.p.) and Egypt (+19 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria, Algeria, Tunisia and South Africa saw its share reduced by -2.7%, -5.8%, -6.3% and -35.7% from 2013 to 2024, respectively.
In value terms, the largest DC motor importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($86M), Morocco ($74M) and Nigeria ($47M), together comprising 52% of total imports.
Nigeria, with a CAGR of +17.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
